Hello Runners,
I hope all of you are set for an amazing race on Sunday!
As the "My First Trail Race" Race Director, I want to let both the 5km and 10km racers know that we have modified the course to avoid a few snow burdened bridge crossings and unnecessary congestion on the trail.
The 5km route will now have runners crossing Lynn Creek and heading south down Varley Trail, speeding towards Rice Lake Road, over pipeline bridge, down towards 30ft pool and cruising back up towards the Start/Finish. This will not only be a fast and fun course with a range of terrain, but it will also avoid trail congestion.
The 10km runners are in for a treat, as you will be running a true figure eight course filled with steady technical ups, and nice smooth soft downs. 10km runners will run the original five km course and then upon re-joining the Lynn Loop Trail will be directed back up the trail and this time crossing the bridge (same bridge crossing as the 5km
runners) and join up with the 5km route.
Start Finish for both races is still in front of Learning Lodge. Both courses will have marshals in place to cheer you on and keep you on the right path. As well as some of the best trail flagging that we have to offer.
We are expecting crisp cold conditions so please dress warm- Gloves, Toques, Tights. We will of course have hot Delaney's Coffee, and goodies galore to keep your bellies warm. We will also have one aid station (gels and water at roughly one mile for 5/10km runners)
A few important notes:
*Parking is limited at Lynn Headwaters. If the weather is good arrive early or plan to park at the Lynn Valley Road Parking Lot (which will require a 1.5km walk to the Start/Finish.
*Bib and timing chip pick up opens at 7:30AM and closes at 8:45AM, give yourself ample time to do this.
*Day of race registration closes at 8:30AM.
Remember to stick around for the awards... and of course smile for the cameras at the finish!
Best of Luck to you all, I look forward to seeing your smiles on race day.
Sincerely
Simon Driver
